Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Operations Directorate have apprehended two suspected drug traffickers in a dramatic anti-drug operation in Ruiru, Kiambu County. The operation, conducted at a petrol station near the Eastern Bypass, led to the seizure of cocaine pellets and rolls of marijuana.
Daring Raid Unveils Drug Syndicate
The suspects, identified as Anthony Ndirangu Wanjiku and Sabiri Kalicha, were caught red-handed in their Toyota Vanguard, registration number KCG 650T. Authorities say they were waiting to finalize a sale with a potential buyer. Inside the vehicle, detectives uncovered nine pellets of cocaine weighing approximately 180 grams and several rolls of marijuana.
The cocaine, valued at Ksh 2,800 per gram, had a street value of approximately Ksh 504,000. The discovery is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating within the capital and its environs.
Stealth Operation Yields Results
The meticulously planned raid was executed by the DCI’s Operation Support Unit, which had been trailing the suspects for hours. Using advanced surveillance techniques, the team ensured the suspects were unaware of their impending arrest.
As the pushers prepared to exchange the drugs, detectives pounced, securing the illicit substances before they could reach the streets.
More Arrests Loom
The two suspects are currently in custody at a local police station, awaiting formal charges. Investigators have confirmed that the operation has unveiled a larger syndicate, with accomplices already identified. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the network.
Government’s Stand Against Drug Trafficking
The raid is part of the government’s intensified campaign to combat drug abuse and trafficking, which continues to devastate communities across the country. Authorities have urged the public to report suspicious activities to aid in curbing the proliferation of illegal substances.
