Trans Nzoia, Kenya – The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Trans Nzoia branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) kicked off on 26th November 2024 with high expectations but quickly turned into a heated forum as key issues remained unresolved.
Among the main concerns raised was the lack of scrutiny over financial matters, sparking dissatisfaction among teachers present. Critics argued that the branch leadership prioritized matters of the deceased over the pressing welfare of living members.
The spotlight fell on Cecilia Nasimiyu, a fearless 2026 aspirant, who, alongside Abuga and Kelvin (commonly known as Gikks), displayed placards demanding a by-election. Their bold move highlighted mounting frustrations over governance issues within the branch.
Nasimiyu, with unwavering determination, joined her allies in rallying for “Democracy & Transparency,” as captured in their placards. Their message resonated with attendees, some of whom expressed solidarity with the call for accountability.
Hon. Tonui, the Vice Treasurer, pledged to escalate these grievances to the National Executive Board (NEB), promising action and emphasizing the need for leadership reforms.

While the AGM sought to address the branch’s future, the dissatisfaction among members revealed a growing demand for inclusive and transparent leadership, setting the stage for a contentious 2026 election.
This year’s AGM will undoubtedly be remembered as a turning point in the fight for accountability within KUPPET’s Trans Nzoia branch.
