Malindi Drug Bust: Sh1.5M Cannabis Seized, Suspect Arrested

In a dramatic anti-narcotics operation in Malindi, detectives seized cannabis worth Sh1.5 million and apprehended a suspect in the Kijiwe Tanga area. The bust, executed by the Anti-Narcotics Unit based at Malindi Police Station, followed a trail of tyre marks leading to a walled compound.

The suspect, Chrispinus Onyango Barasa, 35, was arrested after officers discovered 50 kilograms of cannabis concealed in a white Toyota Mark X, registration number KDP 137N. The vehicle was parked inside the compound when officers arrived.

According to police reports, other occupants of the car fled the scene upon noticing law enforcement. Despite their escape, Barasa, who was the driver, was unable to elude capture and was promptly detained.

How the Operation Unfolded

The operation, described as intelligence-driven, began with a detailed investigation into suspicious activities in the area. Officers followed clues, including tyre tracks, which ultimately led to the compound where the vehicle and drugs were located.

Upon searching the vehicle, detectives uncovered large rolls of cannabis, packed and ready for distribution. The narcotics, estimated to weigh 50 kilograms, were valued at approximately Sh1.5 million.

Ongoing Investigation

Barasa is currently being held at Malindi Police Station as investigations continue. Meanwhile, authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend the other individuals who fled during the operation.
