In a decisive crackdown, police officers from Mjambere Police Station in Kisauni Sub-County have dismantled a notorious gang of machete-wielding criminals known as the Panga Boys. The four suspects were arrested following reports of violent attacks on individuals heading to Kongowea Market.
The operation unfolded after two victims reported being accosted by the gang early Monday morning. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officers on patrol tracked down the suspects—identified as Ali Yusuf, 24, Said Hamisi, 23, and two 19-year-olds, Ali Swalleh and Siajabu Bakari—to the Kadongo area.
Upon confrontation, the gang defied orders to surrender and launched a violent attack on the officers. In the ensuing altercation, police neutralized the threat by injuring Ali Yusuf in his left foot. He was immediately rushed to Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the remaining suspects were detained at Mjambere Police Station.
Authorities recovered several weapons, including pangas and a knife, believed to have been used in previous attacks. The confiscated items have been secured as evidence.
The three uninjured suspects are undergoing processing and will face charges in court soon. The arrests mark a significant step in combating the escalating criminal activities in Mombasa, which have caused fear among residents and traders.
Police have assured the public of continued efforts to restore safety and crack down on criminal gangs operating in the region. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to authorities to aid in maintaining law and order.
