Residents of Kiminini Sub-County in Trans-Nzoia County can finally breathe a sigh of relief after police officers nabbed two key suspects believed to be behind a spate of violent robberies that have terrorized the region in recent weeks.
The suspects, identified as Hillary Kirwa Chebonya and Micah Kirui, were arrested following an intense manhunt that was triggered by a horrifying attack at Shikendu trading centre, located along the Kitale-Webuye highway near the Trans-Nzoia-Bungoma border.
According to police reports, a boda boda rider fell victim to a gang of ruthless criminals who ambushed him, making away with his motorcycle, a mobile phone, and Sh6,000 in cash. Shockingly, the gang escalated their violence by sexually assaulting a woman who was operating a kiosk nearby, leaving residents shaken and demanding swift justice.
Security officers acted promptly, deploying forensic leads and intelligence gathering to track the suspects to their hideout. The dramatic operation culminated in the arrest of Chebonya and Kirui, who are now being held at Kiminini Police Station as investigations continue.
Police have assured residents that the suspects will be charged in court soon, even as a manhunt for additional accomplices remains underway. Authorities are urging locals to remain vigilant and provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining gang members.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities anonymously through their toll-free hotline.
