A Nigerian man, identified as Innocent Udoh, 54, appeared before the Iyaganku District Court in Ibadan on Friday on charges of stealing 70 mobile phones worth N1.75 million; according to media reports.
Udo, whose address has not been released, is charged with conspiracy and theft.
However, the defendant reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges.
ASP prosecutor Sikiru Ibrahim told the court that Udoh and others carried out the theft typically between 12 noon and 5 am on March 30 in the Mokola district of Ibadan.
Ibrahim alleges that Udoh stole 50 Itel phones worth 750,000 naira and 20 Android phones worth 1 million naira from Nwaoma Ezeco.
He said the crime violated sections 516 and 390 of title 9 of the 2000 Oyo Penal Code.
Oekanmi offered the defendants a bond of 500,000 naira along with two bonds of the same amount.
The case was adjourned until April 26 for legal review.
