KISUMU EAST, Kenya – A 24-year-old woman is fighting for her life after her ex-boyfriend allegedly ambushed and stabbed her in a jealous rage for leaving him for another man. The suspect, identified as Sebi Obonyo, remains at large as police intensify efforts to arrest him following the brutal attack in Nyakbong’ village, Kamjulu.
Horrific Attack at Boyfriend’s House
According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 4:45 PM on Friday when Obonyo confronted his ex-girlfriend at her current boyfriend’s house. Armed with a sharp object, he allegedly stabbed her twice—once in the left ear and again in the chest—leaving her bleeding profusely.
Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing her screams, forcing the attacker to flee before he could inflict further harm. The victim, whose identity has been withheld for safety reasons, was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Training and Referral Hospital in critical condition. Medical personnel are working tirelessly to stabilize her.
Motive: Revenge After Breakup?
Preliminary reports suggest that Obonyo was enraged after his ex-girlfriend ended their relationship for another man. Neighbors told police that he had been harboring resentment and may have planned the attack.
“He was not happy that she moved on. He waited for the right moment to strike when she was alone,” a local resident revealed.
Police Manhunt Underway
Authorities in Kisumu East have launched a manhunt for Obonyo, urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
“We are treating this as attempted murder. The suspect is dangerous, and we will ensure he faces the full force of the law,” a police spokesperson stated.
Community Outrage & Calls for Justice
The attack has sparked outrage among locals, with many demanding swift justice for the victim. Gender-based violence remains a pressing issue in Kenya, and activists are calling for stricter measures to protect women from abusive ex-partners.
“No woman should live in fear because she chose to leave a toxic relationship. The law must act fast,” said a women’s rights advocate.
How Common Are Such Attacks?
This incident highlights the dangers of post-breakup violence, a growing concern in many communities. According to recent reports, cases of ex-partners attacking women after rejection are on the rise, with many going unreported due to fear of retaliation.
