Nairobi, Kenya – December 27, 2024

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a firm rebuttal to allegations made by Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti concerning the disappearance of renowned cartoonist Gideon Kibet, popularly known as Bull Kibet. The senator had claimed that a white Subaru vehicle linked to the DCI was reportedly involved in the alleged abduction of the artist.

In an official press statement dated December 26, 2024, the DCI categorically dismissed the claims, terming them “unfounded and sensational.” The agency emphasized that the allegations lack credible evidence and risk undermining the integrity of an active investigation.

DCI Stresses Commitment to Constitutional Compliance

The statement underscored the Inspector General’s (IG) assurance that all police operations are conducted strictly within the confines of Kenya’s Constitution and established legal frameworks. The DCI firmly stated that no extrajudicial activities would be tolerated under its command.

“The suggestion that a vehicle associated with the DCI was used in an abduction is not only baseless but also risks sensationalizing a sensitive investigation,” the statement read.

Public Cooperation Sought in Investigation

The DCI urged members of the public, especially those with credible information related to the disappearance of Bull Kibet, to come forward and assist in the investigation. The agency emphasized its commitment to impartiality, transparency, and accountability in handling the matter.

“We remain transparent and diligent in our pursuit of justice and urge public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that could hinder the investigation process,” the DCI statement noted.

Omtatah’s Allegations Under Scrutiny

Senator Omtatah had earlier alleged that a white Subaru, allegedly linked to the DCI, was sighted in connection with the disappearance of Bull Kibet. However, the DCI has firmly denied any association with the said vehicle or the alleged incident, stressing that such claims risk undermining public trust in investigative processes.

“Maintaining public trust is central to our mission of upholding justice. We remain committed to an open, transparent, and accountable process as we work towards a fair resolution,” the statement concluded.
