CRC announces 10% salary increase for state employees.

The Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has pronounced that there is a salary increase of 7-10% for all government employees.

In a statement to the press, the commission says the new salary structure will be backdated to July 1 after the freeze in 2021.

At a breakfast meeting in Nairobi on Wednesday, the SRC said salary revisions based on growth momentum accelerated shortly after Covid-19.

The head of the SRC, Lynn Mengich, said that the national treasury has allocated Sh27.1 billion for the year 2023/24 to conduct the exercise.

She detailed that an average increase of 7-10% will be achieved over a two-year period and includes a one-step increase of an average of 3% annually.

The groundbreaking news comes from the payroll agency after the Public Finance Act 2023 that introduced new taxes that went into effect on July 1.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has ordered employers to withhold 1.5% of house levy tax accrued from 1 July 2023, as outlined in the Finance Act 2023 following the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse the order to suspend the Finance Act 2023.

The CRC further stopped salary increase for president William Samoe Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
