The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured educators across the country that the transition to the new Social Health Authority (SHA) medical scheme is progressing smoothly, with all affected teachers receiving uninterrupted healthcare services.
A high-level team from TSC, led by the Director of Administrative Services, Ibrahim Mumin, on 1st December 2025, visited Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to monitor the transition process and engage with medical administrators overseeing the on boarding of teachers into the new system.
According to the updates shared during the visit, KNH had supported 42 seamless transitions overnight, with an additional 15 teachers onboarded on the morning of December 1, 2025, bringing the total number of successful transitions to 57 within the first hours of implementation.
Mumin confirmed that every teacher who had been admitted in various hospitals during the switch-over period had already been successfully linked to the SHA scheme, ensuring that no teacher experienced service disruption.
KNH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, praised the collaborative efforts between TSC and SHA, noting that the transition officially kicked off at midnight and had been executed with impressive coordination. He assured teachers that KNH facilities were fully prepared and adequately staffed to support the new system.
“We are committed to ensuring that all teachers under admission continue receiving high-quality healthcare without interruption,” Dr. Lesiyampe said.
The TSC delegation is expected to continue visiting other medical facilities to ensure nationwide compliance and to address any challenges that may arise during the full rollout of the SHA medical cover.

Teachers have welcomed the shift, expressing optimism that the new scheme will enhance access to timely and efficient medical care.
