Trans-Nzoia County Secondary Schools Sports Association Announces 2024 Sports Calendar.

Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya – The Trans-Nzoia County Secondary Schools Sports Association, in conjunction with the Rift Valley Region, has released the highly anticipated sports calendar for the year 2024. The calendar outlines a series of exciting sporting events that will take place throughout the year, showcasing the athletic talents of secondary school students in the region.

Under the leadership of Chairman Moses Lukhobe, the association aims to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition among students. The calendar includes a variety of sports such as rugby, athletics, basketball, hockey, handball, cross country, swimming, soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens, basketball 3×3, and racquets.

Term 1 Games:

The sports calendar kicks off with the Zonal Finals of the Term 1 Games, scheduled for the 16th and 17th of February. This event will feature competitions in rugby 15’s, athletics, basketball 5×5, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming. The Zonal Finals will be held across all zones in the region, providing an opportunity for schools to showcase their talent and qualify for the next stage.

Following the Zonal Finals, the Sub-County Finals will take place on the 23rd and 24th of February. This event will see schools from all sub-counties competing in various sports disciplines, including rugby 15’s, athletics, basketball 5×5, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming. The Sub-County Finals will serve as a stepping stone for schools aiming to advance to the County Finals.

The County Finals, the pinnacle of the Term 1 Games, will be held on the 8th and 9th of March. Schools from Kwanza and Kiminini, including St. Patrick’s, Ndura, Legacy, St. Monica’s, Kibomet, and St. Anthony’s, will battle it out in rugby 15’s, athletics, basketball 5×5, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming. The County Finals will determine the best teams in each sport, who will then proceed to the regional level.

Regional and National Competitions:

Moving on to the regional level, the Regional Finals of the Term 1 Games are scheduled for the 18th to the 23rd of March. Hosted by the Rift Valley Region, the event will bring together schools from various counties to compete in rugby 15’s, athletics, basketball 5×5, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming. The Regional Finals will be held in Nandi County, providing a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills and potentially qualify for the national stage.

The National Finals of the Term 1 Games, the most prestigious event in the calendar, will take place from the 6th to the 14th of April. Hosted by the Eastern Region in Machakos County, this event will feature the top-performing schools from across the country. Students will compete in rugby 15’s, athletics, basketball 5×5, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming, with the aim of securing national titles and representing Kenya at international competitions.

Term 2 Games:

After a brief break, the sports calendar resumes with the Term 2 Games. The Zonal Finals are scheduled for the 7th and 8th of June, featuring competitions in soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens (boys and girls), basketball 3×3, and racquets. Schools from all zones will battle it out for a chance to advance to the next stage.

The Sub-County Finals of the Term 2 Games will take place on the 14th and 15th of June. Schools from all sub-counties will compete in soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens (boys and girls), basketball 3×3, and racquets, aiming to secure a spot in the County Finals.

The County Finals of the Term 2 Games are scheduled for the 5th and 6th of July. Schools from Saboti, including Kitale School, Equip, Kitale Poly, Manor House Agricultural School, Tuyookony Secondary, and Prisons, will showcase their skills in soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens (boys and girls), basketball 3×3, and racquets. The County Finals will determine the best teams in each sport, who will then proceed to the regional level.

The Regional Finals of the Term 2 Games will be held from the 16th to the 20th of July. Hosted by the Rift Valley Region in Bomet County, this event will bring together schools from various counties to compete in soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens (boys and girls), basketball 3×3, and racquets. The Regional Finals will provide a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills and potentially qualify for the national stage.

The Nationals of the Term 2 Games, the ultimate goal for many athletes, will take place from the 27th of July to the 7th of August. Hosted by the Nyanza Region in Kisii County, this event will feature the top-performing schools from across the country. Students will compete in soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens (boys and girls), basketball 3×3, and racquets, with the aim of securing national titles and representing Kenya at international competitions.

Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA):

In addition to the regional and national competitions, the sports calendar includes the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) event. Scheduled to take place from the 14th to the 25th of August, this prestigious tournament will be hosted by Uganda. It will bring together talented athletes from Kenya and other East African countries, providing a platform for friendly competition and cultural exchange.

It is important to note that only students born on or after the 1st of September 2004 are eligible to participate in the K.S.S.S.A activities in the year 2024. This eligibility criterion ensures fair competition among students of similar age groups.
