Detectives in Nyali, Mombasa, have arrested a woman accused of orchestrating a daring robbery against her British boyfriend after luring him into what he believed would be a romantic evening. The suspect, identified as Samira Mumbi Kiarie, also known as Samira, allegedly staged the incident with two accomplices in a well-planned plot that left the foreigner Sh800,000 poorer.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) statement shared on X on 11th November 2025, Samira had been in contact with the Briton for several months through an online dating platform. During this period, she is said to have charmed the man with promises of love and companionship, convincing him to travel to her luxurious apartment in Nyali for what she called a “dream date.”

However, the romantic evening quickly turned into a nightmare. Moments after the Briton arrived, two men stormed into the apartment. One claimed to be Samira’s enraged husband while the other introduced himself as a police officer, brandishing what turned out to be a fake police identification card.

The alleged “husband” accused the Briton of having an affair with his wife, while the fake officer threatened to arrest him for adultery and “disturbing a family home.” Fearing for his safety, the victim complied when ordered to transfer Sh800,000 to mobile phone numbers provided by the gang. Once the transaction was complete, the suspects escorted him out of the building and disappeared into the night.

The DCI revealed that forensic tracking and intelligence analysis led to the arrest of Samira and one of her accomplices, Paul Webster Mangeni, also known as Paulo. Both suspects are now in police custody, assisting investigators with further inquiries.

Investigations have uncovered that Samira and Paulo are part of a larger criminal syndicate targeting foreigners through online dating sites. The group reportedly rents Airbnb apartments or short-stay units in upscale areas like Nyali, where they set up elaborate traps for unsuspecting victims.

Authorities are currently pursuing the third suspect, who remains at large. The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when engaging with strangers online, warning that scammers are increasingly using digital platforms to exploit emotional vulnerability for financial gain.
