Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has called for the immediate arrest of politicians, media personnel, and others he accuses of inciting chaos ahead of planned protests by Gen Z activists.
In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Kaluma warned that Kenya could only uphold human rights in a “stable state free of chaos.” He urged authorities to “arrest, prosecute, and imprison all inciters and anarchists,” sparing no one.
Crackdown Call Sparks Outrage
The MP’s remarks come amid rising tensions as youth-led protests against unemployment and governance issues gain momentum. Critics accuse Kaluma of targeting dissent, while supporters argue his stance aims to prevent violence.
Human rights groups have condemned the statement, warning against suppressing free speech. “Labelling protesters as anarchists sets a dangerous precedent,” said a Nairobi-based activist.
Government Response
So far, no arrests have been made in response to Kaluma’s demand. Police say they will monitor demonstrations but have not confirmed any crackdown.
Analysts suggest the MP’s comments reflect growing unease among politicians over youth-led movements challenging the status quo.
What’s Next?
With protests expected to intensify, all eyes are on whether authorities will heed Kaluma’s call—or uphold the right to peaceful dissent.
