In a gripping early-morning operation on Sunday, October 6, 2025, police officers in Kinoo, Kiambu County, rescued a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer who had been abducted and tied up by a gang of suspected armed robbers. The dramatic rescue unfolded after officers on routine patrol intercepted a suspicious vehicle believed to be linked to a string of highway robberies targeting passengers heading toward Nairobi.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the officers’ swift response helped foil what could have been a fatal incident. The suspects, upon noticing the approaching patrol team, attempted to speed off, triggering a tense chase through the dimly lit Kinoo streets.
After a brief pursuit, police successfully intercepted the vehicle and arrested two of the occupants, while others managed to escape into the darkness. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers were stunned to discover a man bound and blindfolded in the boot. The victim, later identified as a Kenya Wildlife Service officer, told police that he had been travelling to Nairobi when the suspects attacked and bundled him into the car.
“The man was visibly shaken but alive. He reported that the robbers had transferred money from his mobile wallet before targeting other unsuspecting passengers,” the NPS statement read.
The rescued officer’s account revealed that the gang had been posing as public service vehicle (PSV) operators along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway. Unsuspecting passengers who boarded their vehicle were reportedly robbed of their valuables, including mobile phones and cash, before being dumped along the road.
During the operation, police recovered several stolen mobile phones and other personal items believed to have been taken from victims. The arrested suspects are currently being held in custody as investigations continue. Police say the ongoing probe aims to trace additional gang members who fled the scene and to determine the full scope of the criminal network’s activities in the region.
Authorities have since heightened patrols and intelligence operations within Kiambu and its neighboring areas, including Kikuyu, Uthiru, and Kabete, to curb a recent surge in cases involving violent robberies and kidnappings.

The National Police Service lauded the officers’ bravery and quick response, describing the operation as a testament to effective community policing and vigilance.
“We commend our officers for their professionalism and courage. Their quick action saved a life and disrupted a dangerous criminal ring,” the statement added.
Members of the public were further urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities through the NPS toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112. Additionally, anonymous tips can be shared via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform by calling 0800 722 203 or messaging the DCI WhatsApp line at 0709 570 000.

The dramatic Kinoo rescue has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans praising the police for their swift action. Others expressed concern over the rising trend of highway robberies and urged authorities to enhance surveillance along key transport routes, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
This latest incident highlights the growing challenge of organized crime targeting commuters and underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public. As investigations continue, authorities have assured residents that every effort will be made to bring the remaining suspects to justice and restore safety on Kiambu’s roads.
