The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is seeking a significant salary increment of 50 to 100 percent for its members under the proposed 2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The union argues that the increase is necessary to cushion teachers from the soaring cost of living.
KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori highlighted the sharp rise in prices, particularly in oil products, between 2017 and 2024 as a key factor behind their demands.
In addition to salary increments, the union is advocating for risk allowances for teachers stationed in hardship areas and those working in laboratories and workshops, citing the potential injuries they face while on duty.
Speaking at a KUPPET meeting held at AIC Mokombet Church in Uasin Gishu County, Misori justified the union’s decision to suspend a recent nationwide strike that had disrupted learning.
Senior officials, including Deputy Secretary General Moses Nturima and National Vice Chairman Julius Korir, also attended the event.
