The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a stern warning to students and parents against falling victim to online scams offering grade-changing services for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The alarming trend involves fraudsters promoting fake services on social media platforms like WhatsApp, luring unsuspecting candidates with promises of grade alterations for a fee.
KNEC has branded these advertisements as scams, emphasizing that exam results are securely managed and cannot be tampered with.
According to their statement, these fraudulent operations often demand payments ranging from Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 3,500 per subject, falsely guaranteeing improved results that will reflect on certificates and result slips.
The council has reiterated that such claims are baseless and that their examination system is safeguarded by advanced security measures.
Parents and students are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. The scam advertisements often feature enticing phrases like “Don’t Panic, Still There Is A Change” or “KCSE Grade Editing/Changing System,” preying on the desperation of candidates eager to improve their grades.
KNEC advises the public to trust only the official results issued through authorized channels. Attempting to engage in such fraudulent activities not only wastes money but also risks legal repercussions for participants. The council also noted that efforts are underway to collaborate with law enforcement to track and prosecute the perpetrators behind these scams.
In light of these developments, students are encouraged to focus on legitimate academic improvement methods, such as seeking additional tutoring or enrolling in remedial programs. Parents, on the other hand, are urged to guide their children toward honest and ethical approaches to education.
