President William Ruto has made strategic interim appointments, assigning additional responsibilities to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) Aden Duale and Salim Mvurya.
In a memo dated Saturday, December 28, 2024, President Ruto appointed Musalia Mudavadi as the acting CS for ICT and Digital Economy. Mudavadi will oversee the ministry until former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo undergoes vetting and parliamentary approval.

Similarly, Environment CS Aden Duale has been tasked with heading the Agriculture and Livestock Development docket temporarily. This role will remain under Duale’s supervision until nominee Mutahi Kagwe is vetted and cleared by Members of Parliament (MPs).

On the other hand, Sports CS Salim Mvurya will act as the CS for Investment, Trade, and Industry until former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui completes the vetting process.

The vetting of Kabogo, Kagwe, and Kinyanjui by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee is scheduled for January 14, 2025.
These acting appointments follow a recent Cabinet reshuffle on December 19, 2024, where significant changes were made. Kipchumba Murkomen was transferred from the Sports Ministry to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, while Mvurya transitioned from Investment, Trade, and Industry to Sports.
The nominations of Kabogo, Kagwe, and Kinyanjui, all perceived as close allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, come shortly after President Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta publicly reconciled during a meeting at Uhuru’s Gatundu home.
This reshuffle and interim assignments aim to ensure the smooth operation of key ministries as the nominees await parliamentary approval.
These changes signal a strategic alignment within Ruto’s administration, emphasizing efficiency and political balance as Kenya enters a pivotal phase of governance.
