The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially opened the registration portal for the July 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination series. The registration process, which commenced on Monday, 27th January 2025, will run until Friday, 21st February 2025.

This new development comes as a relief to candidates seeking to improve their KCSE grades or those who missed previous exams due to unavoidable circumstances. Here’s everything you need to know about the July series registration process, eligibility criteria, and requirements.

Who Can Register for the July KCSE Series?

KNEC has outlined the categories of candidates eligible for this examination series:

  1. Repeat Candidates:
    • Full Repeaters: Candidates registering for seven or more subjects.
    • Partial Repeaters: Candidates registering for less than seven subjects.
  2. Missed Exams:
    • Candidates who had registered for a KCSE examination in the past but were unable to sit due to unforeseen circumstances.
  3. Adult Learners:
    • Adults not enrolled in regular schools but who have valid primary education qualifications.

Who is NOT Eligible?

Candidates falling into the following categories are ineligible for the July KCSE series:

  • Students currently attending regular secondary schools who are sitting for the KCSE examination for the first time.
  • Learners who do not meet the qualifications stipulated in KNEC’s regulations.

Mandatory Requirements for Registration

All candidates must present original and copies of the following documents:

  • National Identity Card, Birth Certificate, or Passport.
  • Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination certificate.
  • KCSE result slip or certificate for repeaters.
  • A soft copy of a recent passport-sized photograph.

Additionally, repeaters must provide proof of having previously registered for the KCSE examination.

Registration Process and Fee

The registration fee for the July KCSE series is KSH 7,200, payable at the point of registration through E-Citizen. The registration process will be conducted at County headquarters, coordinated by County Directors of Education (CDEs). For candidates in Nairobi, registration will take place at the KNEC headquarters, New Mitihani House, South C.

Examination Administration Details

The July KCSE series will be administered as follows:

  • Examination Centres: Candidates will sit for exams in centres identified by County Directors of Education.
  • Entry Requirements: Proof of eligibility, including a National ID, Birth Certificate, or Passport, is mandatory for entry into examination centres.
  • Theory and Practical Papers: These will be administered at County headquarters, while project-based subjects will be managed at sub-county levels in institutions identified by Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs).
