Nairobi, 24th July 2024 – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has discredited a fraudulent circular circulating on social media purporting to announce the deployment of teachers to junior schools for the 2025 academic year. The circular, titled “SUBMISSION OF NAMES OF TEACHERS TO BE DEPLOYED TO JUNIOR SCHOOL 2025,” was falsely attributed to Nancy Njeri Macharia, the Secretary/Chief Executive of TSC.

The deceptive document, marked as Ref. No: TSC/ADM/i92A/VOLX/3s and labeled as Circular No: 11/2024, was addressed to all TSC Regional Directors, County Directors, and Sub-County Directors. It called for the submission of names of teachers to be deployed from senior secondary schools to junior schools, with specific criteria outlined for the selection process.

The fake circular detailed the following criteria for selecting teachers for deployment:

  1. Teachers who are newer to the profession and have been with the Teachers Service Commission for less than four years.
  2. Teachers considered overstaffed based on the subject combination needs of the school.
  3. Teachers whose subjects have low student enrollment, resulting in fewer classes.
  4. Teachers who can easily transition to teach subjects that are in higher demand in junior secondary schools.

Furthermore, the bogus document emphasized the importance of considering the staffing requirements of each school when selecting teachers for deployment. It also urged school principals to submit the names of selected teachers to TSC Sub-County Directors by 10th October 2024.

However, TSC has come forward to debunk the circular, stating unequivocally that the document is fraudulent and not issued by the Commission. The TSC stressed that any official communication regarding teacher deployment or other administrative matters would be disseminated through proper and official channels.

TSC’s Response to the Fake Circular

In a press release, the Teachers Service Commission clarified that no such directive had been issued and that the alleged circular was a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and create confusion among educators and the public. The Commission reassured all stakeholders that it remains committed to maintaining transparency and accuracy in its communications.

“We urge all teachers, principals, and educational stakeholders to disregard the fake circular and to rely only on verified and official communications from the TSC,” said Nancy Njeri Macharia, Secretary/Chief Executive of TSC. “Our official channels include the TSC website, official emails, and direct communications from our offices.”

In an era where misinformation can spread rapidly through social media and other platforms, it is vital for individuals and institutions to exercise caution and due diligence in validating the sources of their information.

Moving Forward
