New Directive from Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for Intern Teachers: No Filing of KRA Nil Returns Required

In a directive issued by Dr. Nancy Njeri Macharia, the Secretary/Chief Executive of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), all teachers and secretariat staff are urged to ensure prompt filing of their individual income tax returns for the year 2023. The directive, in compliance with the provisions of the Income Tax Act, emphasizes the importance of adhering to the set deadline of 30th June 2024.

Dr. Macharia underscored the significance of fulfilling tax obligations, stating that it is a civic responsibility that contributes to the development of the nation. She emphasized that filing tax returns accurately and timely ensures compliance with the law and facilitates the smooth running of government operations.

The preferred platform for filing the returns is the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) online iTax platform (https://itax.kra.go.ke), which offers a convenient and efficient way for employees to submit their tax information. Additionally, employees can download their Tax deduction cards (P9 Forms) on the TSC T-pay portal for reference during the filing process.

Recognizing that some employees may encounter challenges during the filing process, Dr. Macharia assured them of support from the TSC Accounts Division (PAYE-Section). Employees are encouraged to reach out for assistance through the provided contacts, including phone numbers (020) 2892000 Ext: 2401/2382 and email address: info@ISC.go.ke.

Moreover, employees have the option to seek assistance from KRA Service Centres located across the country. They can visit these centers in person or contact the KRA call center via phone at +254(020)4999999 or +254(0711)099999. Additionally, inquiries can be directed to the KRA via email at callcentre@kra.go.ke.
