In response to recent developments concerning the Teacher Internship Programme, the Teachers Service Commission has issued a statement addressing the ongoing concerns and clarifying the Commission’s stance on the matter.

The Teacher Internship Programme, a vital national government initiative designed to offer practical teaching experience to aspiring educators, has recently come under scrutiny following demonstrations by teacher interns. Reports indicate that the Forum for Good Governance and Human Rights has petitioned the Court, challenging the legality of the programme.

In light of these legal proceedings, the Court ruled in favor of the petitioner, prompting concerns among teacher interns. However, the judgement has been temporarily stayed until August 1, 2024, allowing for continued operations of the internship programme pending further legal deliberations.

The Commission, led by Dr. Jamleck Muturi John, EBS, Chairman of the Teachers Service Commission, has emphasized the importance of respecting the court’s decision. Dr. John urged all teacher interns engaged under the programme to comply with the court order and return to their assigned schools. This directive comes following the official resumption of teaching and learning activities in all public schools as of May 13, 2024.
