Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon Ababu Namwamba, In a gazet notice on Friday, June 9, revoked a gazette notice which established the Talanta Hela council and technical committee.
Famous celebrities who were appointed in the February 2023 Gazette Notice were Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill), Azziad Nasenya, Esther Akoth, UDA digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, Jimmi Githu, Catherine Kamau and sport journalist Carol Radul.
According to reports, the five were to serve for three years.
In his statement, Ababu noted, “It is notified for general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts has revoked Gazette Notice No.1649 of 2023.”
Other personalities whose appointments were revoked were Spice FM presenter Jimmi Gathu and media celebrity, Catherine Kamau (Kate the Actress).
Namwamba, however, didn’t disclose why he quashed the appointments.Churchill and the team were picked to help the government revive and reform the creative industries, including sports.
Talanta Hela’s appointments were annulled days after it was challenged in the Supreme Court.
At the request of Justice Lawrence Mugambi, the Notice to the Official Gazette No. 1649 of 2023 was reportedly suspended until the court decides on the matter.
