Senate ICT Committe Pledges To ensure KONZA SMART City Dream Become a reality

The Senate Committee on Information, Communication and Technology, Chaired by Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, has resolved to work closely with the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy to ensure the Konza Smart City dream is made a reality; the Senate report.

While undertaking its familiarization and inspection visit of the flagship project in Machakos County yesterday, the Members of the Committee underscored the importance of the smart city in creating job opportunities for the youth, adding that the newly constituted Konza Technopolis Development Authority Board of Directors can count on their support.

“We, as a Committee, wish the new Board of Directors well as you embark on your mandate. We will support you to ensure that you achieve your dream as a smart city,” Senator Allan Chesang said.

“If there is any assistance that you need from our Committee in terms of legislation, we are ready for you especially on The Konza Technopolis Bill,” Sen. Kisang’ added.

On his part, the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, Hon. Eliud Owalo, thanked the Members of the Committee for paying the technology hub a visit, before urging the Konza Board of Directors to reach out to the Committee for legislative support.

“Don’t shy off to reach out to the legislative Arm of Government for purposes of consultation and guidance. Take advantage of every opportunity that you have to enable the Members of the ICT Committee understand what programs we are rolling out because they play a critical role,” CS Owalo said.

Members of the Committee in attendance were Sen. Miraj Abdulrahman (Vice Chairperson), Sen. William Kisang’ (Elgeyo Marakwet), Sen. Shakila Mohamed (Nominated) and Sen. Karen Nyamu (Nominated), while Sen. Dan Maanzo (Makueni) attended the visit as a friend of the Committee.
