Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Collins Oyuu has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite the promotion of 130,000 teachers who participated in interviews last year.
Speaking on behalf of the union, Oyuu emphasized the urgency of finalizing the promotion process, which has been eagerly awaited by thousands of educators across the country.
The interviews, which took place in 2023, were part of an ongoing initiative to address career progression and professional development within the teaching workforce.
Oyuu stressed that the promotions are not only essential for boosting the morale of the teachers but are also critical for improving the overall quality of education in Kenya. He urged the TSC to prioritize the matter, noting that the teachers have been patient and are now looking forward to their new roles and responsibilities.
Oyuu’s appeal highlights the union’s continued commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of teachers. The promotion of these teachers is expected to address key staffing issues in schools, enhance job satisfaction, and ultimately contribute to better learning outcomes for students. As the education sector awaits the TSC’s response, the call for timely promotions underscores the importance of recognizing and rewarding the hard work of Educators.
