The official car of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi was involved in an accident in the Kabansora district of Donholm on Monday morning.
The incident occurred while the speaker was being driven to his office and was hit by a train while trying to cross the tracks.
The speaker, who was in his car, said at a press conference that his conscience forced him to use another car.
Mr. Ngondi said that his driver was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Mater Hospital for treatment.
He said the driver did not hear the train and was hit as they watched from behind.
“I was on my way to work at Nyayo Estate. It happened that the official car, which is the lead car, was crossing the railway line… that is when the driver did not hear the train hitting. This happened on our watch, it was quite unfortunate”. as quoted by Nairobi review.
The spokesman said the driver was exhausted because he had arrived from Mombasa the night before.
He added that the driver is being treated to check for internal bleeding or fractures.
His office confirmed the appointment of more than one driver, but there was an error in the duty assessment.
