Man executed for 1989 killings.

A man on death row in Florida for killing a married couple in 1989 was executed late Wednesday night, the Florida Department of Justice said in a press release; CNN reports.

According to court records, Louis Gaskin was sentenced to death in 1990 for shooting 56-year-old Robert Sturmfels and 55-year-old Georgette Sturmfels on December 20, 1989.

According to the documents, Ron DeSanites signed Gaskin’s death warrant on March 13, and the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by Gaskin after the warrant was signed.

The final stay of execution was granted by a judge on Tuesday, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the jury recommended the death penalty in 8-4 vote, which the judge accepted.

According to court documents, Gaskin was convicted of armed robbery, burglary and attempted murder that night.

Gaskin’s execution comes six weeks after Donald Dillbeck, 59, was put to death for the 1990 murder of Faye Vann, 44, in Tallahassee, and three weeks before the scheduled execution of Darryl B. Barwick for slaying Rebecca Wendt, 24, in 1986 in Panama City, according to CNN affiliate WTXL.

Dilbeck, who died by lethal injection in February, was the 100th person executed in Florida since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

According to the Department of Corrections website, there were 298 people on death row the week before Gaskin’s execution.
