Renowned journalist Jeff Koinange has come under fire from fans after featuring Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei alongside Kenyan sports legends on JK Live. The segment, that is planned to be aired on December 4, 2024, was part of a promotion for the second edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run.
The episode also featured Olympic Marathon Champion Eliud Kipchoge, 1,500-meter World Record Holder Faith Kipyegon, and Athletics Kenya Director for Youth Development, Barnabas Korir. Fans were, however, outraged by the inclusion of Shollei, who has faced controversies in her political career.
Fans Demand Jeff Koinange’s Retirement
Fans took to social media to express their displeasure, some even calling for Koinange’s retirement.
One comment read:
“Jeff Koinange should just retire. What is Gladys Shollei doing here?”
Another added:
“How can Jeff mix legends with a thief? This nonsense must stop.”
Others criticized Citizen TV, saying the inclusion of Shollei diminished the value of the interview, with one user remarking:
“Citizen TV has OUTLIVED its usefulness. How does Gladys Shollei even fit in this interview?”
Mixed Reactions
While some viewers defended Koinange’s choice of guests, the loud opposition reflects growing scrutiny over how public figures are selected for high-profile platforms. Critics argue that Shollei’s participation in a segment featuring celebrated athletes detracts from the significance of their achievements.
Will Jeff Koinange Respond?
As of now, neither Koinange nor Citizen TV has addressed the backlash. However, the incident has reignited debates over maintaining journalistic integrity and relevance in Kenyan media.
