The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Kanyenya-ini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Grace Nduta Wairimu, over what they now term as a “stage-managed abduction” involving Juja Member of Parliament, Hon. George Koimburi.

In a statement released on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, the DCI revealed that Grace Wairimu was taken into custody as part of a broader investigation into claims that MP Koimburi had been abducted—a story that generated significant online buzz and prompted concern from both the public and political circles.

According to the statement signed by John Marete, the officer in charge of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, initial reports circulating on social media had painted Grace Wairimu as a victim of abduction. However, subsequent investigations contradicted these claims.

“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the DCI stated.

The revelation has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with many questioning the motives behind what appears to have been a fabricated story. Political analysts and legal experts have also weighed in, suggesting that the case could have far-reaching implications if it is proven that the abduction was indeed orchestrated for political or personal reasons.

Grace Wairimu, who represents Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a County, is yet to make a public statement following her arrest. Calls to her legal team and family members went unanswered by the time of publishing this article.

The DCI has promised to provide further updates as investigations continue, noting that this arrest may not be the last in what they describe as a developing case.

This latest development adds a new layer to the political intrigue surrounding Juja MP George Koimburi. Just days ago, supporters of the MP took to social media to demand swift action from law enforcement after rumours emerged suggesting he had gone missing under mysterious circumstances.

Some allies of the MP even hinted at a possible political plot to silence or intimidate him. However, the DCI’s findings now appear to cast doubt on those assertions, instead suggesting that the story may have been manufactured.

The claim that Koimburi spent the night of May 25 at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant alongside Grace Wairimu contradicts previous narratives and is likely to raise questions about their motivations. Legal commentators argue that if the abduction was indeed faked, those involved could face serious charges, including conspiracy to mislead law enforcement and obstruction of justice.

Under Kenyan law, filing a false report or staging a criminal incident is a punishable offence that could lead to imprisonment or hefty fines, depending on the scale and impact of the deception.

Meanwhile, political observers are closely watching the fallout from the arrest, particularly in Murang’a and Kiambu counties where both leaders have held considerable influence. Some constituents have expressed shock, while others have voiced support for thorough investigations.

On social media, reactions have ranged from disbelief to mockery. “If this was a movie script, it would win an Oscar,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter). Others questioned the use of public resources in chasing what now seems like a theatrical act.

The DCI has not ruled out further arrests, and sources within the investigative agency indicate that several other individuals may be called in for questioning in the coming days. Surveillance footage, mobile phone data, and witness statements are reportedly being compiled to build a comprehensive picture of what transpired between the night of May 25 and the time Koimburi was reported missing.

As the country awaits the next update from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, many are left wondering what could have prompted such a dramatic ruse—if proven true—and what it means for the integrity of elected leaders.
