Gor Mahia midfielder land new job

Gor Mahia midfielder Shafiq Kagimu has reportedly left the club and is set to sign for North Macedonian club FK Rabotnicki according to media reports.


Shafig Kagimu, who is the former URA pl captain joined Gor Mahia in March 2023 on a short-term deal, and after the conclusion of the season, the defensive midfielder is moving out of the Gor Mahia.

K47 digital news Sport understands that the player’s camp and Gor had a gentleman’s agreement to release the player if he got an opportunity outside the Kenyan borders and that he will now depart for North Macedonia to link up with his new club.

“It is true, Kagimu has left Gor Mahia. We had an agreement with Gor that he would leave at the end of the season unconditionally, and I am glad that they have kept their part of the bargain. All is agreed with his new club, and he will link up with his new team soon,” a source within the player’s camp said.

Kagimu was one of the players recruited by coach Johnathan McKinstry during the mid-season transfer window.

This is after he ended his eight-year stay with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC of Uganda and walked out as a free agent. Other players recruited by Gor in January include compatriot Patrick Kaddu, Emery Bayisenge, and Sylvester Owino.

Kagimu is a full Ugandan international. He has played for the national team 13 times. He made his Uganda Cranes debut in 2017.

Rabotnicki have won the league title ten times, the last being during the 2014-15 season. They have also won the FA Cup a similar number of times. They play at the Toshe Proeski Arena, a 33,000-seat stadium.

The team has severally graced the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, and in 2010, they came up against English giants Liverpool in the Europa League third qualifying round, where they lost 4-0 on aggregate.
