A fatal road accident in Luanda, Vihiga County, has triggered violent protests, culminating in the burning of a Nissan matatu by an enraged mob of bodaboda riders.
The incident began when a matatu struck and killed a fellow rider, identified as Jonnah Otieno, popularly known as Opegelee. The impact of the collision was so severe that Otieno, who originally hailed from Ramula and operated from the Siaya stage, died instantly at the scene.

Upon receiving the tragic news, a large group of fellow bodaboda operators descended on the location. Fueled by grief and anger over the death of their colleague, the situation quickly escalated from a somber accident scene into a violent outburst. In an act of vengeance, the furious mob set the accused matatu ablaze, completely reducing it to a charred shell.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the initial accident while also working to calm the heightened tensions in the area. The event has sparked a fresh debate on road safety and the often-volatile relationship between matatus and bodaboda operators on Kenyan roads.
