Fredrick Odhiambo, alias Agunyo, a man feared by many in Nairobi’s Obama Estate, has finally been arraigned in court over malicious property damage worth approximately Ksh 1 million. Agunyo, who has long posed as the chairman of a now-defunct self-help group, is alleged to be the mastermind behind a notorious criminal gang accused of terrorizing local property owners along Kangundo Road.

The accused was charged at the Makadara Law Courts after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved his prosecution. The case involves the willful destruction of property belonging to an elderly businesswoman earlier this year. According to police reports, Agunyo was arrested shortly after coordinating the attack, despite being out on bond for a similar case.

Investigators believe that Agunyo’s gang has been grabbing land from rightful owners, using forged documents and intimidation tactics to illegally resell the plots to unsuspecting third parties. The group’s activities have triggered a wider crackdown by Land Fraud Investigators who are now targeting networks of rogue Ministry of Lands officials suspected of aiding such crimes.

Authorities say the suspect has been operating with impunity for years, with victims too scared to speak out. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 23, 2025, as investigations continue to dismantle the fraudulent land cartel.
