Naivasha, Kenya – Police in Naivasha have arrested a man accused of impersonating a senior officer in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The suspect, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, had allegedly been masquerading as a KDF Major, raising serious concerns over the rising number of fake military officers across the country.
According to police reports, the man had been parading himself as a high-ranking military officer in the town, even using the fake title to gain favors from unsuspecting civilians. Authorities confirmed that he had no military credentials and was arrested following a tip-off from alert members of the public.
This incident comes barely weeks after a similar arrest in Nairobi’s Embakasi area, where one Willington Kimutai Kipyegon was apprehended for impersonating KDF officers within the Embakasi barracks. Investigations into both cases are ongoing, as detectives work to establish whether there is a wider syndicate behind the military impersonation racket.
The Kenya Defence Forces and National Police Service have since issued warnings to the public, urging vigilance and verification when dealing with individuals claiming to be members of the armed forces.
With multiple cases emerging in quick succession, questions are being raised about how these impostors manage to operate undetected — and for how long. The authorities are calling on citizens to report any suspicious behavior to help curb the growing threat of uniformed fraudsters.
