The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has nominated Mr. Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, MBS, to succeed Mr. Twalib Mbarak as the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, subject to vetting and approval by the National Assembly. This announcement follows a rigorous recruitment process under Article 250(12) of the Constitution and Section 16 of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2011.
Out of 172 applicants, 14 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed from November 19 to November 21, 2024. Mohamud, the current Deputy CEO of the Commission, emerged as the top candidate due to his extensive experience and leadership within the EACC.
A Proven Anti-Corruption Advocate
Mr. Mohamud has over three decades of experience in law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts. He began his career in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector in the National Police Service and later joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) in 2005, holding key positions in the Rapid Response Division and the Directorate of Investigation.
Before his current role as Deputy CEO, Mohamud served as the Director of Investigations at EACC, overseeing high-profile corruption cases for over ten years. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Risk Management.
Next Steps in the Appointment Process
The nomination has been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting. If approved, Mohamud will officially take over the mantle from Twalib Mbarak, continuing the Commission’s mandate of combating corruption and promoting integrity across Kenya.
