An armed thug who was part of a gang that had accosted two women at 5am Sunday morning, was fatally wounded after the women raised alarm attracting the attention of police officers on patrol, DCI reports.
The officers from Githurai police post were on the beat as dawn beckoned in the populous area, and who were said to be about to head to their post to handover to the next cohort after overseeing a largely peaceful night.
But their plans, reports says, were immediately thrown into disarray after they suddenly heard piercing “shrieks of uuuuui! uuuuui! wezi! cut across the sleepy settlement, that is a beehive of activity during the day.”
They rushed towards the direction of the screams and arrived in time as the thugs armed with a home-made firearm capable of firing and sharp knives, manhandled the young ladies as they ransacked their pockets and handbags.
The officers ordered the thugs to stop but their warning fell on deaf ears as the gun-toting miscreant fired a shot aimed at their direction, prompting them to dash down for cover.
This provoked response from one of the officers of the law who fired back with precision, fatally wounding the bloodthirsty thug and saving the lives of the two women later identified as Patience and Juliet.
The rest of the miscreants scattered from the scene like chaff before the wind, dropping two knives, the handbag they had snatched from one of the ladies and four mobile phones.
Meanwhile, the body of the fallen thug is lying at the City mortuary pending autopsy and identification.
