A dramatic security incident in Kisumu has sparked national debate after politician and businessman Irungu Nyakera claimed that more than 100 suspected goons attacked his hotel early in the morning, injuring staff and destroying property before fleeing when he fired warning shots into the air.
Nyakera shared the allegations in a strongly worded statement on his social media account, saying the attack occurred at around 5:00 a.m. and left several workers traumatized.

Nyakera also revealed that the alleged attack was not the first security breach involving the property.
He claimed that about three weeks earlier, another group of individuals came to the premises and allegedly removed merchandise while locking the business out of the building.

Nyakera said the PS previously served as the chief executive officer of the Lake Basin Development Authority and alleged that a relative of the PS currently heads the organization.

Nyakera Says He Invested KSh235 Million
Defending his presence at the property, Nyakera insisted that he had legally invested large amounts of money in the project.
He said he took over the premises in 2019 when it was still an unfinished shell structure and transformed it into a functioning hospitality business.
According to Nyakera, he has invested more than KSh235 million into developing the hotel.
He also stated that he holds a 50-year lease agreement for the property, which he says is supported by court records.

“Sending goons here will not drive me away. I am an investor, but I am not stupid,” he added.
