Tragedy on Northern Bypass: 4 Killed in Grisly Easter Crash
A deadly Northern Bypass accident today has left four people dead following a horrific early morning crash involving a Suzuki vehicle and a moving trailer.
The tragic incident happened near Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, an area that has sadly witnessed multiple fatal accidents in recent months. The accident claimed the lives of three women and one man who were inside the ill-fated Suzuki.
Confirming the heartbreaking news, Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Charles Kibathi said the Suzuki rammed into the trailer under unclear circumstances. Speaking while inspecting the wreckage at Ruiru Police Station, Kibathi called on motorists to drive more carefully, especially during the ongoing Easter season.
“This accident is a wake-up call for all road users. We’ve lost four innocent lives today in this Easter period because of road negligence. I urge drivers to slow down and stay alert,” Kibathi said.
The officer emphasized that Easter road accidents in Kenya tend to rise due to high traffic volumes, speeding, and fatigue, particularly during early morning hours. He also urged long-distance drivers, especially trailer operators, to perform regular vehicle checks and avoid reckless driving.
The Suzuki crash near Kenyatta University Hospital has renewed calls for better enforcement of traffic rules on the busy Northern Bypass road, which links Kiambu County to Nairobi.
Police have intensified patrols along major roads including Thika Road, Eastern Bypass, and Northern Bypass to curb the alarming spike in road accidents during the festive season.
The bodies of the four victims were moved to Kenyatta University Funeral Home as investigations continue.
Authorities are once again reminding the public to observe road safety during Easter in Kenya to prevent more families from suffering avoidable heartbreak.
