Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has announced that he will skip the State New Year’s Eve Dinner hosted by President William Ruto at the Kisii State Lodge on December 31, 2024. The senator cited his dissatisfaction with rising cases of abduction, corruption, and violations of citizens’ rights in Kenya.

In a strongly worded statement, Senator Onyonka expressed his deep concerns over the deteriorating state of governance, stating, “The ongoing ABDUCTIONS, corruption, and violation of the people’s rights, especially young Kenyans, is sad and painful to many.”

The senator accused the president of ignoring pleas from Kenyans to address these pressing issues. “Kenyans have asked, begged, and pleaded with President Ruto to which he has given a deaf ear!” Onyonka stated, emphasizing his disappointment with the government’s inaction.

The senator highlighted the plight of families affected by the abduction movement, noting that many are still searching for their loved ones. He questioned the morality of celebrating amidst such suffering, saying, “I’m uncomfortable with the idea that some of us will be normal, happy, and excited with color and pomp when other Kenyan families are agonizing in pain.”

Onyonka concluded his statement by formally declining the invitation to the dinner at the Kisii State Lodge, underscoring his stance against the ongoing injustices.
