In a bizarre incident that unfolded in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County, a teacher reportedly chased his wife after she consumed ‘bull’s bells,’ a delicacy traditionally reserved for men during Christmas celebrations.
The festive season, typically marked by joy and unity, turned chaotic in the teacher’s household after he discovered that his wife had secretly feasted on the prized dish.
According to eyewitnesses, the man, identified as a local primary school teacher, had specifically reserved the bull’s testicles for a Christmas feast with fellow male relatives. However, his wife, allegedly unaware of—or defiant towards—the cultural significance, decided to prepare and eat them herself.
“He was furious when he realized what had happened. He stormed out of the house, shouting and chasing after her with a cooking stick,” said a neighbor who requested anonymity.
The commotion attracted neighbors, who intervened to calm the enraged teacher.
“In our culture, bull’s bells are considered a sign of honor for men during celebrations. For a woman to eat them is seen as disrespectful,” explained local elder Peter Mulama.
Community members have since urged the teacher to forgive his wife and resolve the matter amicably.
The incident has sparked online conversations, with many questioning whether cultural traditions should still hold such weight in modern society.
