The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition is facing significant upheaval as more parties announce their withdrawal from the alliance. In a recent development, NARC Kenya has officially declared its exit, citing untenable political developments as the primary reason for their departure.
In a letter addressed to Hon. Junet Mohammed and copied to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Secretariat, Asha Bashir, the Acting Secretary General of NARC Kenya, formally announced the party’s decision to leave the coalition. The letter, dated 25th July 2024, was addressed to NARC KENYA House, Woodland Road, off Lenana Road, and received by the Secretary General at Parliament Building.
The letter reads: “Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments. This notice is effective from the date of this letter. As NARC Kenya, by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause(s) in the Coalition Agreement.”
This move by NARC Kenya adds to the growing list of parties that have decided to leave the Azimio One Kenya Alliance. The coalition, once seen as a formidable political force, is now grappling with internal discord and shifting allegiances. The reasons behind these exits are multifaceted, ranging from dissatisfaction with the coalition’s leadership to disagreements over political strategies and policies.
The departure of NARC Kenya, led by notable figures such as Martha Karua, is a significant blow to the coalition. NARC Kenya has been a key player in the alliance, contributing to its political strategy and outreach efforts. Their exit signals a potential realignment of political forces in Kenya, as parties reassess their alliances and strategies ahead of future elections.
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition was formed with the vision of uniting various political entities under a common banner to address the nation’s challenges and promote a shared vision of progress and unity. However, recent developments indicate that this vision is facing severe challenges, with internal divisions threatening to undermine the coalition’s objectives.
Political analysts suggest that the coalition’s leadership needs to urgently address the concerns of its member parties to prevent further defections and maintain its relevance in the country’s political landscape. The coming weeks will be critical for the coalition as it navigates these turbulent waters and attempts to restore confidence among its members.
As the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve, the departure of NARC Kenya from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of political alliances and the importance of cohesive and inclusive leadership in maintaining unity and achieving common goals.
