The 2023 Financial Bill delt another blow.

Justice Mugure Thande has extended the conservatory orders of the 2023 Financial Bill until 10th July 2023, at 2:00PM when the ruling will be delivered and directions given.

According to the ruling that was made today, the implementation of the Finance Act 2023 still stands SUSPENDED, in accordance with the orders issued on 30th June.

Githu Muigai, while defending the financial Bill noted that what the petitioners have done is that they have precipitated a constitutional crisis without precedent.

“By misleading the court to suspend the Finance Act 2023, they have compromised all other budget statutes including the Appropriation Act 2023

Lawyer Otiende Amollo, who is the Rarienda MP on his part accuses Githu Muigai of ‘scare mongering’.

Amolo argues that the conservatory orders only affect the new tax measures proposed (Finance Act 2023) and not the Appropriation Bill 2023.

Otiende pointed out that the existence of Finance Act 2022 therefore means there is no vacuum at all.
