Kenyans have been thrown to mourning following the death of Grace Onyango at age 99.
Mama Grace reportedly became the first Kenyan female Mayor to be elected in Kisumu in 1965, replacing Mathias Ondiek and later became the first female MP when she won a parliamentary seat in 1969.
She has been sick for sometimes now.
Talking to his twitter, the opposition chief as someone who illuminated independent Kenya political landscape with a stride of fists which he as says was common to expect “the first African Woman something’ every time her
name was mentioned.
“It is with profound sadness that I accept the passing away of Mama Girace Onyango on a day that world over we are celebrating the achievements of women singularly. Nyabungu as we fondly called her illuminated independent Kenya political landscape with a stride of fists; it was common to expect “the first African Woman something’ every time her name was mentioned. She was a leader and trailblazer to the hilt.” Odinga said
“A trained teacher, she was a fearless articulator of national issues, astute defender of her roots lone voice of the wananchi at a time when it was eminently fatal to stand up and be counted. For this we celebrate her into immortality.”
Odinga further hailed Mama Grace as a wife, politician, mother, grand mother, and great grandmother, all the while not letting her gender stand in the way of competing with men and winning.
“Mama Ida, and the entire Jaramogi family join the rest of the nation in mourning this loss of a winner. May the Lord Rest her soul in eternal peace.” he added.
