Three people were killed on Saturday while another survived after a quarry collapse in Kemuri, Kirinyaga county.
The quarry collapsed around 1:00 pm when workers were digging for building stones
The police said that the victims included two women and a man, adding that investigations are ongoing; according to citizen digital reports.
Moya County Sheriff James Mutua said local residents rescued one of the trapped people.
We rescued one of them and took him to the hospital. He is in stable condition at the moment. However, the other three, perished.” said police.
The bodies have been transferred to the morgue at Kiruguya Hospital, where investigations are underway to determine the cause of the mine collapse.
Some local young men spend their time at the quarry to earn a living.
However, workers like many other fields lack labor protection equipment.
Managers of these sites have called to ensure their workers have protective gear, to no avail.
The lack of protective equipment has led to the death of many people in such accidents.
