THIRD SUSPECT ARRESTED IN KIRINYAGA HEADTEACHER KIDNAPPING
Detectives in Kirinyaga have scored a major breakthrough after finally apprehending a third suspect linked to the shocking kidnapping of Gatuto Primary School headteacher, Mr. Joshua Kiarai. The daring abduction, which took place on November 4, 2025, left teachers, parents and the wider Kirinyaga community in panic as the hunt for the perpetrators intensified.
The newly arrested suspect, identified as John Kinyua Muriuki, had been a ghost to investigators — constantly slipping through their surveillance as officers closed in. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kinyua was cornered and arrested after days of tracking his movements, ending his attempts to evade justice.
His arrest now raises the number of suspects in custody to three. The first two individuals linked to the crime were arraigned before the Gichugu Law Courts on November 25, 2025, where detectives successfully sought more time to complete their investigations.
Police reports indicate that headteacher Kiarai was violently seized and held captive by the gang during the distressing ordeal. Though details surrounding the motive remain under investigation, authorities have assured the public that the safety of teachers and students remains a top priority.
DCI officers are currently processing Kinyua in preparation for his court appearance. The dragnet is also tightening around a fourth suspect, believed to be the mastermind behind the abduction, who remains on the run. Detectives say his arrest is imminent as intelligence operations continue across the county.
The incident has sparked a renewed call for enhanced security measures for educators, particularly those serving in rural and vulnerable areas.
As the case progresses in court, parents and residents are hopeful that justice will be served swiftly and that all individuals involved in the heinous crime will be held accountable.
