The Nandi County Senator Hon. Samson Cherargei has defended Yesu Wa Tongaren.
Yesu Wa Tongaren Eliud Wekesa was arrested yesterday for claiming that he is Jesus and his teachings likened to extremism.
The court allowed police to hold him up for three more days as investigation is underway.
Cherargei has asked police to act professionally and not act emotionally in their arrests.
He says he was a victim of police brutality like Yesu Wa Tongaren.
“We expect police to be professional & to avoid arbitrary arrests based on national emotions I have been a victim of police malicious arrests & prosecution I don’t wish any kenyan to go through the same including Yesu wa Tongaren.” said Cherargei.
Cherargei termed the arrest of clergymen as unconstitutional and illegal adding that criminals should be handed down without mass condemnation of all Churches.
“This blanket arrests of clergy is unfortunate, illegal & unconstitutional. The criminals should be weeded out of religious organisations but NOT doing mass condemnation against the church or Islam or Hinduism or their religious leaders !” He said.
