In an explosive interview on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi Show on December 15, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua unleashed a barrage of accusations against President William Ruto, laying bare what he described as “the president’s lies” and poor leadership. Gachagua, impeached earlier this year, did not hold back as he dissected Ruto’s governance, labeling it dictatorial and dismissive of key stakeholders.

Speaking on national issues, Gachagua revealed behind-the-scenes details of his fallout with Ruto, accusing him of centralizing power and sidelining ministers, MPs, and even his deputy. “The President is never questioned. All the ministers you see are flower girls—they do not have a say,” Gachagua said, branding Ruto’s leadership style as a “one-man show.”

Exposing Government Shortcomings

Gachagua criticized Ruto for launching unfunded development projects, calling it a façade to mislead Kenyans. “We launched projects with no funding. Contractors would leave once we were gone. I warned the president, but he didn’t like the truth because it exposed his false narrative,” he lamented.

The former DP further accused Ruto of failing to address economic hardships, pointing out the rising frustration among Kenyans who, according to him, struggle to afford basic needs like transport to their rural homes. He highlighted this as a stark contrast to the president’s promises of economic revival.

Allegations of Bribery and Resignation Pressure

In a bombshell claim, Gachagua disclosed that Ruto had offered him billions of shillings and retirement perks in exchange for his resignation. “I declined because I was voted in by the people,” he asserted, emphasizing his loyalty to his mandate despite mounting pressure.

Harsh Criticism of National Health Reforms

Gachagua dismissed the government’s proposed SHA (Social Health Authority) and SHIF (Social Health Insurance Fund) reforms, labeling them “twin scams.” He alleged that their architects prioritized a Sh104 billion technology system budget over the welfare of Kenyans, calling for accountability.

Rift Over Uhuru-Ruto Talks

The former DP also weighed in on the recent talks between President Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta. While he refrained from revealing details of their discussions, Gachagua maintained that the Mt. Kenya electorate is independent and not easily swayed. “The people of Mt. Kenya are not told what to do,” he said, asserting that politicians must align with the region’s grassroots sentiments rather than dictate them.

Security Concerns

Gachagua recounted how he was forced to personally secure his safety, claiming to have enlisted over 300 personnel to protect himself and his properties after his official security detail was withdrawn. He alleged that this decision was influenced by Ruto and facilitated by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, someone he had earlier supported for the role.

Warning Against Insults to Voters

In a parting shot, Gachagua cautioned leaders against insulting their electorate. “A president should never insult or belittle the people who elected him by calling them foolish or accusing them of being cursed,” he warned, referencing a recent controversy involving the president’s remarks about the voters.

Mounting Criticism Against Ruto

The interview paints a grim picture of Kenya’s current political climate, with Gachagua branding Ruto as a leader out of touch with his electorate and detached from collective governance. His sharp rebuke comes amid growing public discontent over the country’s economic struggles and controversial reforms.

As Gachagua continues to air grievances, his revelations could deepen the cracks within the political alliance that brought the Kenya Kwanza government to power. The rift signals an uncertain future for Ruto’s administration as it grapples with internal dissent and a disenchanted electorate.
