The first Lady, Rachel Ruto has commented on the Wangari Maathai’s daughter, Maathai Wanjira, after she won a sh13.5 billion for forest restoration at the lake side.
Taking to her twitter post, Rachel Ruto Lauder her saying “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
Rachel Ruto noted that Mathai Wanjira, the daughter of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai, has taken on her mother’s iconic footsteps.
She continued to detail that Wanjira, the Managing Director of Africa & Global Partnerships at the World Resources Institute (WRI), has had her Restore Local initiative win US$100 million that will go into accelerating locally-led land restoration in different parts of the African landscape, among them, Kenya’s Greater Rift Valley.
“This is an inspiration to many climate action champions, especially women, and has given a voice to the going green advocacy.” Said Rachel Ruto.
She added: “Congratulations @MathaiWanjira, and thank you for your devotion to making this world a better place.”
In her reply, Wanjira said “Thank you very much, @MamaRachelRuto 🙏🏽”
This comes barely a week after she made it to TIME’s annual list as one of the 100 most influential people of 2023.
