Police Headquarter has issued a directive prohibiting traffic officers from carrying firearms while on duty.

Police HQ cite misuse of firearms by traffic police while on duty as the cause.

“IT BEEN NOTED WITH GREAT CONCERN THAT OFFICERS ACTIVELY ENGAGED ON TRAFFIC DUTIES ARE ARMED (CARRY FIREARMS).

“THIS HAS RESULTED IN MISUSE OF THE FIRE ARMS BY THE OFFICERS (-)” a statement seen by the k47 News team read.

The directive takes effect as from 30th November 2023.

“FROM TODAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2023 (R) 30/11/2023 NO OFFICER ACTIVELY ON TRAFFIC DUTIES WILL CARRY A FIREARM (R) NO OFFICER ACTIVELY ON TRAFFIC DUTIES WILL CARRY A FIREARM.

County commanders have been directed to “ENSURE THAT THIS DIRECTIVE IS COMPLIED WITH PROMPTLY.”
