Siaya Governor James Orengo is under fire from a section of Luo professionals who have accused him of working against President William Ruto’s government. The group is now calling for Orengo’s impeachment, claiming that his persistent criticism of the Head of State is “unpatriotic” and “politically backward.”
According to sources within the Luo Professionals Caucus, Orengo has allegedly been holding secret meetings with President Ruto, even as he publicly attacks the Kenya Kwanza administration over cases of alleged abductions, corruption, and extrajudicial killings.
The professionals have openly warned that any governor from the Luo Nyanza region who refuses to align with Ruto’s leadership will face consequences, including possible impeachment.
In what appears to be a growing rift within the ODM stronghold, Orengo’s sharp remarks targeting the government have not sat well with the professionals, who insist that supporting Ruto is the only way to secure development projects and safeguard the region’s political relevance.
“Leaders must work with the government of the day. Orengo must stop fighting the president or risk impeachment,” one of the professionals, who requested anonymity, told the press.
The tension highlights a deepening divide in Luo Nyanza politics, with some professionals urging the region to abandon opposition politics and embrace the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Governor Orengo, a veteran lawyer and close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has been vocal about the rise in forced disappearances, corruption scandals, and state brutality — issues he blames on the Ruto-led government.
This latest political drama has set the stage for a fierce battle, as Luo professionals intensify pressure on Orengo and other dissenting leaders to fall in line or face impeachment motions in their respective county assemblies.
