MCK breaks silence after police masquerading as journalists arrested protestors.

The Media Council Of Kenya has condemned police for masquerading as journalists to arrest protesters saying the action by police is a threat to the media at work.

“The Media Council of Kenya has noted with deep concern cases of security officers camouflaging as journalists covering protests with intent to arrest protestors.” Said Said David Omwoyo in a press release on Wednesday evening.

Omwoyo termed the police action unprofessional and meant to endanger the lives of journalists on duty.

“Impersonation of journalists by the police is a grave unprofessional misconduct on the part of the police and endangers the lives of journalists in the line of duty.

“While the Council appreciates the release of journalists who were earlier arrested while covering the protests, the detaining of journalists was unnecessary, arbitrary and ridiculous.

“The work of journalists is protected under Articles 33, 34 and 35 of the Constitution, a right that should be respected by all.”

This policeman on the photo above was disguised as a journalist in Mathare arrested and harassed that man whose only mistake was asking the police why they teargassed his young child children in the area. This was Charles Owino was praising the police for yesterday.
