On May 24, 2024, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Machakos Campus held a significant event to mark Mental Health Awareness Month. This event, spearheaded by the Deputy Registrar of Student Affairs, Ms. Grace Mwangi, and the Principal, Mrs. Felistus Muinde, aimed to elevate the discourse around mental health among the student body and foster a supportive community.

The occasion was notable for the introduction of a peer support program announced by Ms. Mwangi. This initiative is designed to provide students with a network of peer mentors who can offer support, guidance, and a listening ear to those struggling with mental health challenges. This program underscores the campus’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.

In addition to the peer support program, Ms. Mwangi took the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the students who participated in the Zonal sports competitions held from April 26 to 30, 2024. She highlighted the crucial role of engaging in sports, clubs, and group activities in promoting mental health and overall well-being. According to Ms. Mwangi, these activities not only enhance physical health but also provide vital social connections and a sense of community, which are essential for mental wellness.
